June's Bird of the Month is the Penguin
Order: Sphenisciformes, Family: Spheniscidae
Chosen by SilverPadfoot for placing third in the Bird Interactions art contest!
Penguins are a group of aquatic, flightless birds living almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere, especially in Antarctica. Highly adapted for life in the water, penguins have countershaded dark and white plumage, and their wings have evolved into flippers. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, squid and other forms of sealife caught while swimming underwater. They spend about half of their lives on land and half in the oceans.

If you have any favorites (including your own art/photos), please post up to 2 thumb codes in the comments and I'll include them in this journal! (Deadline: Sep
Ten Years on DeviantArt!
Wow, how time flies... :thumb188264521:
It has now been ten whole years since Birds-Club (https://www.deviantart.com/birds-club) was founded! Can you believe that?! :faint: We have come a long way since grugster (https://www.deviantart.com/grugster) created the club. Back then, there weren't even any official groups. We used a normal user profile for our group, and admin had to take turns logging in to help curate the gallery. When Groups premiered in 2009 or 2010, we were one of the first clubs to take advantage of the new format. Our group has had its ups and downs, and at the end of the day, we will always be here for your bird art addiction! :D
Now, it's time for a feature!

April 8 - Draw a Bird Day
Draw a Bird Day
Today, April 8, is Draw a Bird Day 2015. Draw a Bird Day commemorates the memory of Dorie Cooper, a girl who cheered up her uncle and other war veterans by asking them to draw birds for her. Sadly, she was killed in a car accident at age 10, and the war vets, nurses, and doctors filled her coffin with bird drawings to remember her by. Now, every year on her birthday, people honor her memory by drawing a bird. You can read more about her story here.
If you draw a bird and upload it to DeviantArt today, please comment on this journal with a link to your drawing! It will be featured in this journal.

Update 3/10: Applications are now closed, new moderators will be announced soon.
