May's Bird of the Month is the Ostrich
Order: Struthioniformes, Family: Struthionidae

Chosen by ~Garfield428 for placing third in the Bird Interactions art contest!

The Ostrich (Struthio camelus) is either one or two species of large flightless birds native to Africa, the only living member(s) of the genus Struthio, which is in the ratite family. Some analyses indicate that the Somali Ostrich may be better considered a full species separate from the Common Ostrich, but most taxonomists consider it to be a subspecies.

Hmm, while the colors are reminiscent of a peacock, I'm afraid the tie to birds is a little too vague :/ So I'm going to say no. Sorry!
Keep up the good work though :)

One more question. In the bluebird nest in the birdhouse there were 2 eggs, but now there is only one. One has just vanished out of nowhere but there are absolutly no predators to that birdhouse & the nest. I've thoroughly checked the ground around the birdhouse & the fence but there is no sign of the egg. What could have happened? When do bluebirds sit on their nest?

Are you sure there are no predators? They can be pretty sneaky!

The only thing, which i found today, is one or 2 big bumble bees trying to chew through our wooden fence like they try every spring -_-

I had this thought last night. I did some searching & found the 2 eggs to be blue jay eggs. There is a birdhouse on our fence that bluebirds made a nest in & have one egg in it. If I put the blue jay eggs in that nest, do you think the bluebird possibly would take care of them as well as her own?

Sometimes parents will push out strange looking eggs too, as a defense against parasitic nesters like cuckoos.

If the blue jay eggs hatch there, the baby jays might push the baby bluebird out of the nest. I don't know if that is a good idea...
